Tuna, hao, eels are highly valued within our Māori culture, they are a taonga species and are endemic to New Zealand.

This pine tuna honours our taonga, Tuna and the waters they live in. The kaupapa of Mauri Tuna, aims to bring attention to our precious tuna and mahinga kai - harvesting our traditional indigenous kai, resources and caring for our natural environment. Being able to engage in mahinga kai, creates strong connections with the places of our ancestors, our whenua, awa, puna, roto, repo, moana and continues the transference of intergenerational indigenous knowledge.
