WĀNANGA TOI 2021The inaugural Toi Ngāpuhi Wānanga Toi was a five day noho for Ringatoi o Ngāpuhi nui tonu to set up studio together, in whakawhanaungatanga, to whakawhiti kōrero, collaborate and exchange concepts and ideas. Strengthening relationships to collectively uplift Ngāpuhi cultural and creative excellence is at the heart of the mahi of Toi Ngāpuhi.

Ngā Whakautu mo 2021
New to the mahi toi world, I jumped at the idea of being at a five-day mahi toi wānanga, to be given a space to work on my own mahi and to be with other like-minded people.

What a fantastic kaupapa, I really enjoyed it.
I enjoyed that there was a mix of speakers, and activities. There was a mix of artists, from photography and film, to clay and carving as well as Te Ao Māori and Atua Māori kōrero.
The opportunity to network with youth, established artists, tohunga and just people in general was cool.

The speakers were terrific - I learned about slowing down and not wanting everything here and now. It was great to hear Te Rawhitiroa Bosch talk about valuing yourself, your work and understanding your worth as an artist.
I also enjoyed listening to Tukaha Milne's kōrero about Atua Māori.

Ōtiria was an awesome venue, central, so between Hokianga, Whangārei and the Far North. Having the marquee to work under with heaters was perfect! We were able to work through the night if needed.
I loved the mix of skills and ages, I also loved the first night presentations about how to create our own art. Would I attend another Wānanga Toi? DEFINITELY!
