This piece depicts the separation of Ranginui and Papatūānuku. When the pūhue is connected with the base of the hue, they are enclosed, whole and embracing, like Rangi and Papa were. However, when the Pūhue is removed, they are separated. The oro of this piece is Rangi’s call back to his love, Papatūānuku.
