‘As we continue our collective move from New Zealand to Aotearoa, we are constantly traversing and negotiating the realms, spaces, knowledge(s) and conventions that sit within our bi-cultural nationhood, and which manifest in our multi-cultural realities.

The takawaenga role is an ancient one which retains its importance and relevance in a contemporary sense. When outcomes of mana are sought through bringing groups together with the intent of sharing, imparting, confirming and creating knowledge, the takawaenga role can be instrumental in creating conditions that sharpen the opportunity for the creation of meaningful, and mana-ful, outcomes.’

Phil’s practice sits firmly in this area, standing on experiences gained working in environmental consultancy, for a post-settlement iwi authority and most recently within a local government context.
