The hue puruhau is a versatile taonga that can double as a taonga puoro and a container for kupu and karakia. As a taonga puoro, the oro is a combination of our hā and the deep bass sound of a heartbeat. In this instance, it will also be used as a container for a karakia in honour of Hine Pū Te Hue.

The karakia was recited into the hue at the opening of the exhibition, and the lid was then placed in the hue to retain the karakia inside for the duration of the exhibition and released at the end.
